Meritas derives from the latin of veritas for truth in combination with merit for wisdom. Meritas Solutions is in the business of creating value from ideas, imagination and innovation. The truth is that this conception process is the most valuable in any economic supply chain and that the solution is velocity or time savings by knowledge, economies of scale, practice and ease and the best and finest tools possible. So the truth is that we don't know what the right business is. The truth is that we only know that we don't know and want to find it. The truth is that we have considerable good capabilities or merit, and we ask ourselves what can we do with those resources? The reality is that major companies have subsidaries and affiliates that have embraced leading edge business incubators as a best practice for their development since this concept was written about by Harvard Business School professors in the early1990s and before. It is well worn business advice that failure is essential to success and that venture capital returns come from approximatey 13 failures to 1 single significant success. We try and try again. We experiment, we test, we fail, we learn, we succeed. We know by Meritas that if we keep trying our business will not only succeed it will thrive and be extraordinary. Our business is change itself and being on top of the cloud, on the next wave, or being where lightening strikes. It is a way of thinking focused on perpetual building of expertise, relationships, infrastructure and capital to do business.
Our model is to create businesses in series based on our infrastructure towards identifying what may be a viable stand alone business and then that business may be spun out and developed further. We have evolved to these realizations and this business model and believe that we have made progress since our inception while we are still learning by experimentation how to improve on our approach. What we know is that we don't know and that creating business value like in science comes from experimentation, combination of the less obvious or more obvious, and voyage into areas of interest and un-interest. We are a small business in trying to make our way by looking to our strength in creativity while leveraging our limited capital, relationships, expertise and infrastructure. Some principles govern our thinking:
1. There are five ways to earn money. As an employee, as a professional, as a broker, as an investor and as a merchant. Each has its own distinct successful approaches. We must work in all five to understand all five to appreciate economic conditions.
2. A successful enterprise is like a table top on 4 legs or it wobbles. These legs are capital, relationships, expertise and infrasture. Each is essential in copious and even quantities. We must nurture all four of these elements.
3. A business must create change or adapt to change to succeed. In this regard, whatever worked 'yesterday' may not work 'today'. We must continue to develop new.
4. The only ascertainable thing of value is intellectual property. Our system of laws protects it and works well and that has enabled the greatest progress in the history of the world over the past century. Focusing on procurement of intellectual property is the seed of business.
5. Established technology and capabilities are the building blocks that pave roads to our global neighbours and global future. Using global resources is smart and essential in order to compete and offer world class products and services. Supporting and leveraging location, locality and regionality and proximity in combination with technological global access is a fundemental idea.
6. Integrity and the commitment to develop good and useful products and services is sacrosanct. Something worth doing is only valueable if it is consistent with ethics, morality, and decency. We only work with people who we like, and who help do things even better while mindful of discipline, limitations, honour, trustworthiness, and thoughtful vision.
7. Value is a function of quality divided by price. Businesses can only survive in the long run if they are striving to produce their production at better and better value positions. To us that is both higher quality and lower pricing, if possible. Quality is engendered through not squandering time and resources and focusing on areas of competitive advantage and professional strength.
